Principal and HM suspended following dismal CBSE results

ITANAGAR, Jun 16: Department of Education has suspended one Principal and a Headmaster following dismal performance in CBSE examination 2016.

The suspension follows the bleak CBSE results of Govt. H. S. School, Bilat in East Siang and Govt. Secondary School, Riga in Siang district.

106 students have failed the Class-X CBSE examination out of 108 appeared from Govt. H. S. School, Bilat.

In Govt. Secondary School, Riga in Siang district, all the 28 students that appeared the Class-X examination have failed.

Earlier, on June 14 Education Minister Wanglin Lowangdong while reviewing the CBSE Class-X and Class-XII examination results of 2016 expressed deep concern over the poor results of many Government schools in the state.

The Minister has directed that action be taken against the officers and teachers who are not sincere in their duties, leading to poor performance in Class-X and Class-XII CBSE examination in the state. While appreciating the problem of general shortage of teachers in the state, the Minister said that it cannot be the reason for scoring pass percentage of zero or two in CBSE Class-X examination. He directed the department to take stern action against those officers and teachers who are neglecting their duties at the cost of poor and innocent students. The Minister directed the Education Secretary to evolve mechanism to review academic functioning of the Govt. schools from time to time for better performance and results in CBSE examination in the state.

This year the State has recorded only 58% pass in Govt. Schools in Class-X examination and 46% pass in Class-XII examination during 2016.

The review meeting was attended by Parliamentary Secretary (Education) Tsering Tashi, Secretary (Education)Bidol Tayeng, Director of Secondary Education B.N. Lendo, Director of Elementary Education T. Gao, Director, SCERT G. Lazi, and others.

NCST seeks judicial probe for Tawang firing

ITANAGAR, Jun 16: The National Commission for Schedule Tribes (NCST) has written to the Chief Secretary, Govt of Arunachal to initiate judicial inquiry into the Tawang firing incident which claimed two lives on May 2.

In a letter seeking action against those responsible for violation of rights of Schedule Tribes in Tawang, the Commission further said that cases may also be investigated by the CID instead of the district police.

It further said that pending final outcome of the judiciary inquiry, compensation and job to the next of the kin and the deceased and injured may be given.

While the Govt has already given monetary compensation and a magisterial inquiry tabled following which seven police personnel have been suspended, numerous organizations have been demanding for transfer of the case to CBI for a fair probe. The Govt is yet to comment on the demands.

Tiger driven back to Pakke Wildlife Sanctuary

ITANAGAR, June 16: A joint operation to drive away a stray Tiger from Sonajuli area of Durpong Reserve Forest towards Pakke Wildlife Sanctuary Division was conducted on Thursday.

DFO Banderdewa, Neelam Nido informed that reportedly the Tiger had killed few Mithuns in Sonajuli and neighbouring area.

The day-long operation was conducted by the officers and staff of Western Arunachal Circle office, Banderdewa, Banderdewa Forest Division, Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary Division and Pakke Wildlife Sanctuary Division, Sejiosa, Wildlife Trust of India and members of All Capital Complex Mithun Farming Association and volunteers from Sonajuli Village Forest Management Council.

Earlier, CCF R.K.Singh briefed about the operation and actions to be taken. The team then moved to Sonajuli area where the three groups were formed and the field operations were briefed to them by DFO Banderdewa Neelam Nedo and DFO, Pakke Wildlife Sanctuary Division Tana Tapi.

All the teams entered into the forest from Sonajuli Nallah, Chessa II village and Sonajuli Research Centre and made loud sounds including bursting of crackers to create maximum possible disturbance to force the tiger to leave the area.

Pug marks of the tiger were seen in Namaste Hill.

The Tiger had moved towards the West direction while the operation teams could not go ahead due to inaccessible terrain. Chief Conservator of Forests, Banderdewa has requested the Mithun Farming Association to keep the Mithuns in safe areas out of the forest till the time the Tiger goes away and also to help the forest department again as and when the need arises. The CCCF also appealed to the public not to venture into the forest for the time being and not to harm the Tiger as it is expected to leave the area soon.

Pul to support Kalaktang accident survivor

GUWAHATI, June 16: Chief Minister Kalikho Pul met Ngawag Pema who survived the May 22 MV accident near Betchiling on Rupa-Kalaktang Road. She is currently admitted at Dispur Hospital in a comatose state.

The Chief Minister promised the family members that the state government will put every effort to save her.

The CM met the doctors and the owner of the hospital and asked them to give best possible care to the lone survivor.

In addition to earlier ex-gratia relief of Rs 4 lakh, the Chief Minister also made financial contribution from his personal source. He further assured to clear all the pending medical bills through the CMR funds.

Renovate or close down Mithun Breeding Farm, says angry villagers

ITANAGAR, Jun 16: The people of Lichi village under Kimin Sub-division have criticized the department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary for pathetic condition of the Mithun Breeding Farm located at Lichi. The land for establishment of Farm was donated way back in 2002 by the villagers. The Farm is in deplorable condition and not manned by a single Field Veterinarian. Only three contingency labourers have been placed to look after 15 Mithuns. The Mithuns are roaming outside the farm area without any proper care. The villagers have unanimously demanded department to either immediately renovate farm through allocation of sufficient fund or close down the farm at the earliest and return the land to the villagers.

The villagers added that while persuading the local people for donating the farm land twelve years ago, the concerned department promised many lucrative things like providing contract works and employment for local people once the farm is established but even after many years the department has not created any infrastructure and have failed to live up to the expectation of local people.

Villagers allege that Mithun often wander into other agricultural fields and are destroying the cardamom and orange plants thereby creating lots of nuisance as there is no fence to confine the Mithuns inside the campus.

The farm is totally neglected and is managed from Nirjuli and Sagalee by an attached Veterinary Officer bypassing Kimin Veterinary Department which is nearest Vet Service provider. At present there is sporadic outbreak of FMD at Lichi village which has largest Mithun population in Kimin Sub-Division but the farm does not have medicine and field staff to assist the Mithun farmers, they allege.

Perturbed by the total negligence, the villagers led by ASM and senior citizen, repeatedly met Director of AH & Vety between 2014 and 2015 and urged him to do something for the ailing and neglected Mithun Breeding Farm by placing some fund. But till now only mere assurance and lip service have been given to public.

NDRF donate 100 units of blood

ITANAGAR, Jun 16: 100 units of blood were donated by the officers and jawans of 12th Bn NDRF during a voluntary blood donation camp organized at the campus of 12th Bn NDRF, Doimukh on Thursday.

The camp was organized with the technical support of Tomo Riba State Hospital, Naharlagun and 12th Bn NDRF MI Room Unit.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Pasang Sona informed about the benefits of blood donation and urged all to keep donating blood to ensure that there is no scarcity of blood in future.

Commandant 12th Bn NDRF, Shiv Om, earlier inaugurated the camp amidst the presence of Comdt. (M), Dr. GM Sharma, Dr. KL Rongmei unit officer.

Kaling Doruk elected as PMC chief

PASIGHAT, June 16: Pasighat Municipal Council, Councilor (Ward-5) Kaling Doruk has been elected as the Chief Councilor for the 12-member PMC on Thursday.

Kaling Doruk got 7 votes out of the total 12 votes polled, while BJP candidate Kangge Moyong managed to capture 5 votes.

Talking to this correspondent, Chief Councilor Doruk pledged to run the urban body smoothly and work for development of Pasighat town. He appealed the Councilors to shed party politics and work with dedication for welfare of the common people.

APWWS reacts to Kolkata molestation case

ITANAGAR, June 16: The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) has sought inclusion of a female officer to ensure fair enquiry in Kolkata molestation case since it is a case under Sexual Harassment at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal Act 2013).

While reacting to the news of alleged molestation of a female staffer by DRC Kolkata, APWWS has lauded the lady for coming up with the complaint while adding that it needs a lot of courage to speak about such incidents when the perpetrator is the employer himself.

Meanwhile, Society has reiterated its demand to the govt for setting up redressal cell in every department so that immediate steps are initiated against any wrongdoers who take advantage of female employees. It further expressed its serious concerns about safety and security of female employees under various government and semi-government establishments.

State police raise Rs 2 Lakhs for colleague

ITANAGAR, Jun 16: The Arunachal Pradesh Police extended financial help to Papum Pare (Rural) ASI, Takam Taying, who is presently admitted at AIIMS, Delhi due to kidney failure.

Under the initiative of SP Yupia, the APP staffs of Papum Pare (Rural) and all the districts of the state, voluntarily contributed over Rs 2 lakhs to the family of ASI Takam Taying for his treatment.

MAAK for de-reservation of Jopong from DEWS

PASIGHAT, Jun 16: Calling for de-reservation of Jopong area from Daying Ering Wildlife Sanctuary (DEWS), the people of Mebo sub-division under the banner of Mebo Area Among Kebang (MAAK) has stated of pursuing the matter at the state and central level.

In a meeting held at Borguli village on June 14, Gaon Buras, PRI leaders, senior citizens, Itanagar Mebobian Welfare Kebang, student unions unanimously resolved to follow the decision.

The meeting witnessed participants from Borguli, Kiyit, Ngopok, Sigar, Raling, Motum, Seram, Namsing, Mer, Siluk, Aohali, Mebo and Ayeng village presenting their views and suggestions for de-reservation of ‘Jopong” from Borguli Range of Daying Ering Wildlife Sanctuary. Speakers of the meeting questioned the ways and means by which Jopong area was included into the DEWS without conducting any public hearing.

Jopong, a forestland located in the Borguli Range of DEWS was once owned by people of Borguli village for cultivation which was later included into the then Lali Wildlife Sanctuary after it was upgraded from erstwhile Lali Reserve Forest which was later renamed as D. Ering Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary.

DC inspects Schools in Tawang

TAWANG, Jun 15: The Tawang Deputy Commissioner Kashis Mittal visited Secondary School, Govt. Higher Secondary School and Manjushree Vidyapith to inspect the existing infrastructure. During his interaction with the teachers and students, he was apprised of various problems related to the schools. He asked principal and headmistress to submit a proposal citing the various requirements so that the same could be taken up at the earliest.

He said that library and laboratories are two integral parts of a school and the authorities are to ensure its proper functioning. While emphasizing on the important role of teachers, he asked everyone to maintain discipline and said that cases of absenteeism if found any would be strictly dealt with. He enquired about the mid-day meals being provided and further stressed on maintaining hygiene during the preparation of meals.

Later during the day, District Executive Committee meeting on disaster management was also held. The committee recommended the crop damage and house damage reports submitted by circle level boards after verification. With regard to the damage report from other departments, he asked the heads to ensure genuineness while preparing the estimates and prevent escalation of cost. He said that the assessment report submitted by the various departments would be first reviewed and those found correct would be sent to state govt. for further action. (DIPRO)

Training on compost making & Soya milk

ITANAGAR, Jun 16: In all 23 farm women from various cooperative societies and SHGs from various parts of Upper Subansiri district took part in a Upper Subansiri, KVK organised demonstration programmes sponsored by ATMA, Daporijo on ‘Compost making at home’ and ‘Preparation of Soya milk from soyabean’ on Wednesday last.

SMS Soil Science and Home Science imparted the training to the participants.

APCC, Governor condoles demise of Anjan Dutta

ITANAGAR, Jun 16: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has condoled the demise of Anjan Dutta, president of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, who passed away on Thursday at AIIMS, Delhi.

APCC observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect and tribute for the departed soul. The meeting was attended by APCC president Padi Richo, National Secretary NSUI incharge Arunachal Pradesh Mausom Boruah, PCC office bearers, NSUI office bearers and party leaders and workers.

Richo in his speech recalled his close association with the late leader and termed him as a popular leader, a true Congress loyalist and a man of discipline and simplicity, whose immense contribution for all round development for the society and Congress party will be remembered by the people.

The committee further prayed to the almighty for eternal peace of the departed soul and to bestow enough strength to the bereaved family members in the hour of grief to bear the irreparable loss caused to them.

Governor JP Rajkhowa has expressed shock and sadness on the demise of Anjan Dutta.

Remembering Late Dutta as a distinguished politician, Governor said that he had a strong sense of social commitment for the uplifting the under-privileged and the down-trodden, and touched the hearts of the people through his simplicity and easy accessibility.

Conveying condolences to the bereaved family members of Late Dutta, the Governor also offered prayers for eternal peace of the departed soul.

Late Dutta was a former Cabinet Minister of Assam and President of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee.

BJP event starts at Bomdila

BOMDILA, Jun 16: State unit of BJP kicked off Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Maha Prashikshan Abhiyan in Bomidla on Thursday in Kameng Region in presence of state party chief, Tapir Gao, local MLA Japu Deru and Chairman of DDUMPA, Dominic Tadar .

'BJP is a cadre based party where decisions are always taken in "bottom-up" approach , not top-down,' said Gao in his keynote address.

While justifying such trainings that help party office bearers up-to Mandal level, Gao added, initiatives and programme of BJP led NDA government ought be explained to all.

Further, Gao informed, as per the decisions taken at National Executive at Allahabad, executive meetings must be held every three months from state to mandal level to ensure that communication on decisions taken at the highest level must reach to the last person.

Speaking on the occasion, Prashikshan Paramukh, DDUMPA, and state General Secretary, Dominic Tadar charted the roadmap and key objectives of these series of training which will end in mid-July next .

Key resource persons were Shekhar Kelkar, RK Khirmey, Jarpum Gamlin, Vijay Sonam and Dr. Tangor Tapak.

‘Do not misuse the name of NWS’

ITANAGAR, Jun 16: In an interesting turn of events, the Nyishi Welfare Society (NWS) led by Bengia Agung which of late had voiced out it views against the Nyishi Elite Society (NES) over the infamous audio clip credited to chief minister Kalikho Pul seems to have found its original representatives.

In communiqué sent to the press on Thursday, one Takam Xavier claimed that the NWS is actually a duly registered NGO which was established by Ex-ANSU president Hayeng Mangfi and a group of educated youth way back in 2003 and it had nothing to do with Bengia Agung and Co.

“The NWS was created with an objective to own a few number of hearses for lifting dead bodies of BPL families from Itanagar to the far flung Nyishi dominated areas on charitable basis. Moreover, the society has no agenda to seek the mandates of Nyishi community for any ventures undertaken for the humanitarian cause of community nor was it formed to interfere in the mandate role of NES,” a statement from Xavier said.

Xavier who also provided copies of registration certificates to the press added that the name of NWS being used by Bengia Agung, who, as per him, is an unauthorized member, has shocked the entire team of NWS.

Further, it appealed all to refrain from using the organization’s name for their interests as it threatened legal actions.

Contractor for implementation of APDBEP(IDP) Act

PASIGHAT, June 16: While showing resentment over permission being granted to Assam registered firms to participate in the tender and bidding process for a project at Ruksin Sub-Division under Rural Work Division, Pasighat, the East Siang Registered Contractors Association (ESRCA) in a statement has appealed the concern authorities for implementation of the Arunachal Pradesh District Based Entrepreneurs and Professionals (Incentives, Development and Promotional) Act 2015.

The Association said that the department concern of RWD, Pasighat has allowed Assam registered firms to participate in the bidding process which is a complete violation of the APDBEP (IDP) Act 2015. According to the Act, firms can participate only in the project work of Rs Ten Crore above, added the association who also met the Chief Engineer at Itanagar regarding the issue.

Meanwhile, when contacted to Executive Engineer, RWD, Pasighat over the resentment raised by the (ESRCA), Er. Mugling Tayeng informed that, two firms registered in Assam but proprietors having domicile in East Siang are participating in the bidding.

“I don’t find wrong in letting these firms participate in the bidding process as the firms owners are residents of East Siang. Before registration of contractors started in the state around decade and half ago, the Arunachal firms were registered at Assam”, reasoned Tayeng.

Awareness on flagship programme

SINGCHUNG, June 16: A day-long intensive awareness programme was held at Singchung, West Kameng by Directorate of Field Publicity, Bomdila Unit on various provisions and benefits of Flagship Programmes of Government of India launched during last two years.

MLA Kumsi Sidisow requested the villagers to make themselves fully aware about the programmes so as to avail optimum benefits of the ongoing flagship programmes launched by Government of India.

Earlier a rally was organised by Directorate of Field Publicity, Bomdila Unit in co-ordination with the teachers and students of Government Higher Secondary School, Singchung.

Fish seeds distributed

ITANAGAR, Jun 16: Free fish seeds were distributed to 55 flood affected fish farmers of Piyong Circle in Namsai on Tuesday. The programme was conducted under SPS of 2015-16 1.0 lakh fish seed and 3.0 lakh under NMPS programme of commercial fish farming and other inputs undertaken by DFDO Namsai on June 3 last.

Post staff in board office: AAPLU

ITANAGAR, Jun 16: The All Arunachal Pradesg Labour Union (AAPLU) Anjaw unit has requested for posting registering officer and other staffs for Arunachal Pradesh Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board (APB&OCWWB) branch office in Anjaw district.

In its letter to the chief minister, it claimed that absence of staffs in the branch office is hampering the labourers of the district office as nobody has been registered till date.

CCLAPF alleges Dept Housing of biased report

ITANAGAR, June 16: Alleging that the Department of Housing is submitting biased report by suppressing and hiding cases of few encroachers who have demolished and removed government quarters and the Itanagar Capital Complex DC is acting upon it, the Capital Complex Land Affected People’s Forum (CCLAPF) has called on the Chief Minister to act upon it.

In a release, CCLAPF also stated that the DC Capital Complex has served eviction notice to few people on pick and choose basis.

Further, the CCLAPF added that the DC has also failed to verify as to why the Department of Housing is not submitting encroachment report on their near and dear ones.

SMC appeals for posting teachers

ITANAGAR, June 16: Citing acute shortage of subject teachers at Govt. Sec. School Kiyit under East Siang, the SMC members of the school have requested the Director Secondary Education to post the required teachers.

The SMC led by its chairman, Lining Pertin had submitted memorandum to the DSE highlighting the basic needs of the school.

The SMC stated that since it’s up-gradation in 2009, the school has been running short of J/Ts in almost all subjects. The school caters to one of the most populous village in Mebo sub-division but shortage of infrastructure and teaching staffs has rendered the school useless. Several representations were earlier made to the higher authorities in this regard but nothing has materialized till date, stated the release.

Awareness camp on disaster management & preparedness

ITANAGAR, Jun 16: An awareness camp on Disaster Management and Preparedness was held at the Aliney (LG) village, Dibang valley district, on Wednesday.

Organised by the Department of Disaster Management, Anini under the aegis of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, the camp was attended by the DC incharge, Marto Riba, DDMO incharge, Pime Keche, District hospital Medical Officer, Dr. James Lego besides, PRI members, govt. officials, students and general public.

Speaking on the occasion, DC incharge, Marto Riba stressed on the need to impart training on disaster management and preparedness and exhorted the participants to spread the knowledge and information so received in the awareness program to one and all.

DDMO incharge, Pime Keche explained the salient feature of the disaster management and preparedness with the help of power point presentation while, MO, Dr. James Lego demonstrated the use of first aid and other techniques during the emergency situation. (DIPRO)

Dengue awareness campaign conducted

YUPIA, Jun 16: A series of meetings, awareness campaigns, public announcements and distribution of IEC materials were conducted by the Papum Pare unit of District Vector borne Diseases Control Programme Office, to sensitize the general public regarding dengue and its symptoms and precautionary measures to prevent the expected outbreak of dengue in the various wards under Itanagar Municipal Council.

The campaigns were held in particular areas which have been reported of having high Index of mosquitoes (Aedes Aegypties) main vectors for spreading dengue by the surveillance team headed by Kimin, Zonal Malaria Officer, Dr K M Lombi during the month of May.

As part of the campaign, spot visits to various tyre shops, construction sites and local houses were made and cleanliness drives conducted to prevent breeding of mosquitoes. Since the Aedes Aegypti mosquito is day biter mosquitoes, propagates very fast with life cycle of 21 days and bites more than ten persons in a day, people were advised to get anybody suspected of dengue be tested at a laboratory.

DVBDCPO, Dr Tana Aruna advised people to avail the facilities at TRSH, Naharlagun where all dengue related tests are done free of cost. The DVBDC society also observed Anti Malaria Month in various health facilities and organized awareness programme at the Govt. Secondary School at G- Sector, Naharlagun recently. (DIPRO)

State taekwondo team brings laurel

ITANAGAR, June 16: Bringing laurels for the state, Arunachal Taekwondo team became the overall champion of the 6th India Open Taekwondo Cup-2016 held at Goa from June 9 to 11 last. A total of 16 gold, 11 silver and 7 bronze medals were won by the team.

The team was led by coaches VS Dhillon and Noksom Lowang and manager Tater Hui.

Meanwhile, president and general secretary, Arunachal Taekwondo Association, Kipa Kaha and Tarh Tagin have congratulated the team on the win.

Arunachal Weightlifting Association Teli Daniel has advised all the players to make the sport their passion along with studies.

Gold medal winners are Noksam Lowang (40 years individual poomsae), Tana Suraj (30 years individual poomsae), Samuel Taki (Senior green belt individual poomsae), Suwang Wangsu (senior blue belt individual poomsae), Nabam Yakar (junior green belt individual poomsae), S Wangsu & S Taki (2 nos) (senior green belt pair poomsae), K Nonang, S Wangsu & S Taki (3 nos) (senior green belt individual poomsae), Lakpa Gelu (48 kg junior male), Satnam Singh Dhillon (51kg junior male), Nabam Toka (59 kg junior male), Tadar Take (68kg junior male), Seem Sonar (51kg senior female) and Nabam Yakar (47kg junior female).

Silver medals were won by Kaling Nonang (senior green belt individual poomsae), Oti Pegu (30 years female individual poomsae), Ngechi Richo (59kg senior male), Karling Bengde (48kg senior male), Kissanso Tawsik (55kg senior male) Koj Ninya (52kg senior female), Chuku Yana (49kg senior female), Roshni Manyu (44kg junior female), Gemnya Rori (49kg junior female), Aido Jerang (64kg senior female).

Bronze medals went to A Moro (42kg junior female), Hui Kaku (63kg senior male), Yapi Paksok (61kg senior female), Yalik Ering (57kg senior female), Kaku Nguri (63kg junior male), Hui Obin (58kg senior male) and Gamin Gangkak (58 kg senior male).
